Bsquare Touts Cloud in 2019 for IoT, Chooses AWS as Partner

Bsquare sees great things ahead in 2019 for the cloud in the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) space, in which it offers its DataV suite of edge-to-cloud IoT services and software.

The company just picked a cloud services provider, announced collaboration to expand its services and included cloud connectivity in a recent predictions post.

Bsquare took note of cloud connectivity opportunities in a recent 2019 IIoT predictions post in which Rebecca Grollman said: "As connectivity to the cloud increases, I predict 2019 will bring more willingness to experiment with this newly collected data. As the data and data possibilities become better understood, I predict companies will focus on how to improve data collection.

"For example, small changes including collecting different types of data, adjusting the frequency of data collection, and transforming data differently can make a huge impact on actionable insights. These changes will not only lead to a better understanding of the business, but also to predictive analytics. With these changes, companies will start to see how their connectivity to the cloud is impacting their business for the better as they put these actionable insights into motion."

More recently, Bsquare today (Jan. 15) said it's collaborating with Amazon Web Services Inc. (AWS) to meet the increasing demand for IIoT services, in addition to naming AWS as its preferred cloud services provider.

Bsquare said customers use DataV for actions such as:

• Analyzing real-time (engine) performance data to reduce false positive alerts
• Reducing unplanned downtime through real-time predictive failure data analytics
• Remotely verifying vending machine product stock and sales
• Improving production consistency and streamlining manufacturing workflows by applying data analytics

The DataV site says its IoT applications can be used to manage resources and devices with maintenance, optimization, failure prediction, repair, tracking and other asset management functionality.

In a statement, the Bellevue, Wash., company said DataV "is designed to help businesses translate insights generated by industrial assets into critical operational improvements. By gathering key device data, and applying rapid data analytics and machine learning, businesses can improve asset uptime, reduce costs, increase revenue and more."

Bsquare, which in 2016 became an AWS IoT Competency Partner in the AWS Partner Network (APN), said it has been using AWS IoT services such as AWS Greengrass, AWS IoT Device Management and AWS IoT Analytics for customer deployments.

Exact details on how AWS will collaborate with the company for future offerings weren't provided. "Bsquare has a long track record of success developing solutions running on AWS that help industrial businesses reach their IoT goals," said acting Bsquare CEO, Kevin Walsh. "We also share the same commitment to constant innovation that is necessary to drive digital transformation across a variety of enterprise and industrial markets. As a result, we are pleased to be able to collaborate with AWS as we work together to develop more advanced solutions for our customers."

Bsquare is just the latest vendor to pick AWS for its IoT offerings, as Verizon recently announced an IoT DevKit program, starting with the Amazon cloud.
